A Day in the Life @ Sunset

We hope for this to become a series of posts highlighting some of the funny, interesting, or crazy things that we see, hear, or do here in the shop.  You want an inside glance at life in a bike shop?  Here you go!

Literally half the bikes which came in for service on Friday arrived with one set of brake pads installed backwards.  Go figure…

At least they weren’t our brands!  🙂

Felt AR4

Here is our latest cool build for one of our Sunset Cycles Team guys Kyle. He wanted a bike that can do it all. Soon he will get set up with 2 different positions on this bike, one for road and one more dialed for TT events. We also will have a demo soon in this bike that we will have a full review of as we put miles on it.

Frame/Fork: Felt Aero Road HM High Modulus Modular Monocoque carbon fiber frame with 3KP Finish; internal cable routing.
Drivetrain: Shimano Ultegra STI 6700; Ultegra front derailleur; Ultegra rear derailleur; Ultegra 53/39T crankset; Ultegra chain, 11-25T cassette.
Wheelset: Felt AeroR2 700c 28mm deep aluminum rims DT Bladed butted 1.8/0.9 x 2.3/1.8mm with aluminum nipples.

It weighed right in at 17lbs.

We finished assembly on a bike not too long ago that was pretty cool, so we thought we’d share it with you.   We’ve got lots of photos too!  Here’s the details on the build:

-Frameset: 2010 Specialized S-Works Roubaix SL2 & S-Works Pave’ seatpost
-Wheelset: Shimano Dura Ace 7850-c24-cl
-Tires: Continental Gran Prix 4000s
-Group: Shimano Dura Ace 7900 (w/ Ultegra 6700 STI & f. derailleur)
-Handlebar: Ritchey SuperLogic Carbon
-Bar Tape: Specialized Roubaix EVA
-Stem: S-Works Pro-Set
-Saddle: Selle Italia Max Flite Gel Flow

Stuart loves his new wheels too – but I guess we could have expected that.

Enjoy the ride!

A Visit to Specialized HQ

Specialized Offices Morgan HillPhoto: Specialized

Life is tough.  Just as October was wrapping up and the rains were coming to the Pacific Northwest in earnest – I was shipped off to sunny, warm Northern California for a week of riding and training.  Sometimes you gotta take one for the team.

Sarcasm aside – I’ve just returned from Morgan Hill, California; the home of Specialized Bicycle Components.  Specialized hosts regular training sessions for their dealers on a variety of topics.  The classes I attended covered their proprietary products and technologies and then a 3-day course on their exclusive Body Geometry (BG) bike fitting process.  I’ve been in the industry for almost a decade and been fitting bikes for seven years – but with all the training I’ve had and all the things I’ve seen; I was thoroughly impressed with my first trip to Specialized.
